Everything from convertible sports cars to banger racers were used by students attending their prom night at Thomas Clarkson Academy in Wisbech. The Year 11 event was held at the school with friends and family gathering to watch the teenagers arrive ahead of their special night.

Ethically-sourced uniforms which don’t cost the earth are being introduced at a primary school in Newcastle. Pupils at St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School can now wear a uniform produced by Etika, a company based in County Durham which works with manufacturers in India to ensure an ethical supply chain for the textiles it uses. Young artists at a Northumberland school have had the chance of a lifetime to exhibit their work in the world-famous National Gallery in London. Pupils from St Robert’s First School, Morpeth, created their own original work on Fantastic Feet, inspired by a painting depicting a biblical story, and now it is on national display until mid-September. Talented young musicians from across West Norfolk had the chance to display their skills to a live audience, when Springwood High School hosted the first West Norfolk Academies Trust community music week. A variety of themed evenings of entertainment took place on a professional standard stage set up in the field behind the school’s gym, showcasing a wide range of musical offerings to suit all tastes. A secondary school student and her teacher have both been shortlisted for a prestigious art prize, beating thousands of other applicants to make it into the final running. Izzy Wright and her fellow Year 12 students at Springwood High School were encouraged to take part in the Holt Festival competition by the school’s head of art Lee Eveson, who, as a painter himself, also decided to enter. Pupils and carers at St Wilfrid’s Catholic Primary in Blyth are developing a taste for kitchen knowledge after the school began running after hours cookery sessions for children and adults alike. The initiative addresses the issues of food poverty and the cost of living crisis, whilst also offering an innovative learning activity for pupils– and the early signs are that it is proving to be a big hit. A group of Wisbech students have been celebrating exceptional results after completing their child development course. And a teacher at Thomas Clarkson Academy described telling the group of their success as the highlight of her career. Staff at a Salfords Primary School have had their hard work publicly recognised by the prestigious Education Business Awards. Salfords, a member of the multi-academy Trust GLF Schools, was alone in the Surrey region to make it onto the shortlist of finalists, and was rewarded with a commendation in the Outstanding Progress Award (primary). |
