Strong and determined leadership at a Northumberland school has raised expectations for pupils who have ‘excellent manners’ and take pride in their work.
Significant improvements have been made at Ss Peter and Paul’s Catholic Primary Academy, Cramlington, which has been awarded outstanding for personal development, and an overall rating of Good following a recent Ofsted inspection.

There was a festive feel when pupils at Gaywood Primary School swapped their uniforms to support a charitable cause yesterday (Thursday)
The children were taking part in Christmas Jumper Day, Save the Children’s annual fundraising appeal. Young musicians from primary schools in Surrey and Croydon have played the stage at one of the world’s best-known London venues - the Royal Albert Hall.
A host of activities took place outside the classroom when sixth formers at a Newcastle school enjoyed a ‘Day of Aspiration’.
Budding landscape artists flexed their creative muscle when they visited historic Holkham Hall in Wells-next-the-Sea.
The 25 Year 3 pupils from West Lynn Primary School also saw their science studies come to life on the trip, which was arranged for the group by Holkham Hall’s Learning and Engagement Office, Lucy Gillett. The world’s most famous Gothic family paid a successful visit to West Walton, when Marshland High School staged its annual musical.
The Addams Family Musical took place over three consecutive evening performances, with Morticia, Gomez, Wednesday, Pugsley, Lurch, Uncle Fester et al all putting in an appearance at the school, which is a member of the West Norfolk Academies Trust. Budding Jamie Olivers and Nigella Lawsons showcased their culinary talents in the first round of the 2023/24 Rotary Young Chef Competition.
The aspiring cooks at Smithdon High School in Hunstanton took on the challenge of creating a healthy meal for two within a £6 budget – and all against the clock. Children at a Byker school rise to the high ambitions of the staff, and have strong relationships with them, according to a recent Ofsted report.
St Lawrence’s Catholic Primary School continues to be a ‘Good’ school and it offers a ‘warm and caring welcome when you walk through the door,’ the inspector noted. Smithdon High School is celebrating after Ofsted inspectors awarded a ‘Good’ status across the board following a recent inspection.
The school was praised for its ‘well-crafted,’ ambitious programmes of study and the inspector said pupils: “Value the opportunities to nurture existing talents and develop new ones. This goes beyond the traditional offer of sport.” A West Norfolk pianist with a love for Rachmaninoff and ambitions to become a doctor has given a solo recital at his King’s Lynn school.
