Aureus School students got a taste of university life when they visited Trinity College in Oxford. The group of 14 students, who are all in Years 8 and 9, took part in the trip through the Brilliant Club’s Scholars Programme – an initiative linking state schools with universities to introduce state students to life in higher education.

A North Shields secondary school has welcomed four Ukrainian students to its community. St Thomas More Catholic High School, a member of the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust, has been joined by Maks Denyshchych, Ksenia Zozulia, Valeriia Komorova and Nazar Popovych, all of whom have fled the war in their home country and are currently being hosted by families in the Newcastle area. Musical youngsters from Frogmore Junior School in Camberley showcased their talents at London’s O2 Arena when they sang as part of the world’s largest school choir. A group of 20 Year 4, 5 and 6 children from the school, a member of the GLF multi-academy trust, joined over 8,000 others for the Young Voices 2023 concert which took place in front of an audience of thousands. A scary play which descends into farce and is all in French has helped Wisbech students to get to grips with another language. La Maison Hantée is aimed at teenagers who are learning French and is billed as a scary production which ends-up being really funny as the actors break out of character when things go wrong. Wintry weather didn’t deter 82 intrepid students from a Hunstanton school who braved the elements on a three-day outdoor adventure trip. The Year 7 and 8 students from Smithdon High School, a member of the West Norfolk Academies Trust, travelled to Norfolk Lakes, an outdoor adventure centre in Lyng, near Norwich. The achievements of students at a King’s Lynn secondary school have been celebrated at a special presentation evening held in their honour. More than 100 Year 11 graduate students at Springwood High School, a member of the West Norfolk Academies Trust, were joined by 280 relatives and friends in the school’s Peter Hopkins Hall for the event which saw a host of certificates and prizes awarded. A former student at a North Shields secondary school is performing 10,000 pull-ups to raise money for charity. Sam Craggs graduated last year from St Thomas More Catholic High School, a member of the Bishop Bewick Academies Trust, and is undertaking the feat to raise funds for the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation. A school cook who hung up her apron to become a carer is celebrating two years in her role – and says she is enjoying every moment of it. Kerry Williams, who lives in North Walsham, joined the Broadland office of award-winning home care company Extra Hands in February 2021, when the pandemic saw her previous job become increasingly stressful and isolated. Young readers and writers at a Whitley Bay primary school were inspired by a visit from a children’s author.
The pupils at Star of the Sea, which is a member of the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust, spent an afternoon with Will Mabbitt, whose books include I Can Only Draw Worms, This is Not a Fairy Tale, and The Unlikely Adventures of Mabel Jones. A West Norfolk school that raised over £2,500 for a local hospice received a visit from the grateful charity. Gaywood Primary School, a member of the West Norfolk Academies Trust, raised £2,586 for The Norfolk Hospice Tapping House last month, making them the biggest fundraiser among the schools that took part in the charity’s Rudolph Run. |
